RC Airplanes
During the late 1800 hundreds, the first type of remote controlled flying devices were used in theater productions. They used spark emitting radios that signaled hydrogen filled airships to move. It was during the 1930s that the radio controlled airplanes started to become more advanced and many people became RC hobbyist during that time.
When you’re fist starting out as an RC plane hobbyist, you will want to think about what type of engine you want to use. With today’s technology, you can get gas powered or electric powered that are almost as good as their gas powered counter parts. The gas powered engines will usually give you longer flight time than the electric ones will. They also have a certain sound and smell the gives the hobby a different feel.
The gas powered engine uses a two stroke or 4 stroke crankshaft for power. They have bushing or ball bearing engines and it’s up to you to decide which one you want to use. The ball bearing engine will generally give you more power and also will last longer than the bushing type engines. The ball bearing engines will typically cost 2 to 3 times more than the bushing type.
For those that really take the hobby very serious and have money to burn, you can actually purchase jet powered engines for your RC planes. These little powerhouse dynamos can cost $5000 and up so there are not a lot of RC hobbyist flying those types of craft.
Flying RC aircraft can be a fun and exciting hobby to participate in. Kids as much as adults can enjoy it and it’s a great way to spend some quality time with your kids doing a hobby you all enjoy.
When you first start out, you might want to start with a less expensive plane or even a used RC airplane until you get the hang of RC flying. That way, if you crash and obliterate the aircraft, you’re not out of a lot of money. Once you have developed the skill, you can then move up and buy a better quality RC plane.
